Sold For:
$22,800
Year: 1978
Auction: 2021 June
Lot #: 9
Auction: Postwar Baseball - 1970s to Present Cards
Complete original unopened rack case of 1978 Topps baseball contains three boxes with twenty-four packs per box for a total of seventy-two packs. With each pack containing thirty-nine cards, the case represents a total of 2,808 cards. This case comes shrink-wrapped by Baseball Card Exchange (owned by Steve Hart, the foremost expert on unopened material). The "factory-sealed" distinction is particularly important and makes the offered case even more impressive. The 1978 Topps set includes rookie cards of Eddie Murray, Paul Molitor, and Alan Trammell, and key cards of George Brett and Nolan Ryan. While it is impossible to provide guarantees with reference to grading of unopened material, it would be hard to imagine that this case does not include a generous supply of Mint or even Gem Mint examples of every player in the set, including Murray and Molitor. Original factory seals intact with very minor outer box wear. A tremendous opportunity to acquire this extraordinary and rarely seen factory-sealed rack case from the popular 1978 Topps baseball issue. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot. Reserve $10.
