1910 E103 Williams Caramel Ty Cobb PSA POOR 1
Sold For:
$6,300
Year: 1910
Auction: 2022 February
Lot #: 9
Auction: Prewar Baseball - E Candy Cards
Modestly graded example of Ty Cobb, the key card of this very rare and classic 1910 era candy set. The E103 Williams Caramel set is easily distinguished from other caramel sets of the era by the bright red background highlighting each player's portrait. As noted on each card along the lower margin, The Williams Candy Company was in Oxford, Pennsylvania., and this candy was very likely issued on a somewhat regional basis. This fact almost certainly accounts for their great rarity. When they are found, they usually have serious condition problems, which is not surprising considering that these cards were issued to children one card per package with candy. This card displays a bright red background and a crisp image of Cobb. Graded POOR 1 by PSA due to a number of condition issues, including heavy creasing and rounded corners. Despite the flaws, as can easily be seen, this is a presentable low-grade example of one of Cobb's most desirable and rarest cards. Reserve $10.
