Graded VG 3 by PSA. Offered is an attractive Vg example of this classic Lou Gehrig card. This is one of Gehrig's rarest 1930s cards and the key card to the DeLong Gum set. Gehrig, of course, is not just the highlight of the DeLong Gum set; it is one of the highlights of all Lou Gehrig cards and all 1930s gum cards. DeLongs have always been highly appreciated by advanced collectors. The small number of cards in the set, their relative scarcity compared to most others card sets of the era, their unique dimensions, design, and the fact that they were only a one-year issue all combine to give DeLongs a special mystique. This card displays a crisp image, strong colors, honest corner wear, and centering toward the left. The reverse is boldly printed. Scattered light creasing and a spot of small discoloration in the blue background factor into the assigned grade. The R333 is one of Gehrig's most desirable cards, and one of the most famous of all 1930s gum cards. The R333 Gehrig is also far rarer than Gehrig's 1933 Goudey counterparts, especially in high grade. Due to this far greater rarity, we have always thought the DeLong of Gehrig represented a particularly exceptional value among all Lou Gehrig cards. This is a very attractive example of one of Gehrig's most classic cards in an extremely desirable grade. Reserve $10.
