The offered card boasts superb clarity, sharp corners, virtually no wear to the borders, and excellent centering. In 1955, at the age of 23, the young Mantle had a breakout season. In 147 games he hit 37 home runs, batted .306, and led the league with a slugging percentage of .611. This was also a breakout year for Bowman when it introduced its "television" set during a time when millions of homes across the country were first being exposed to TV broadcasts. The flush-to-the-border wood-grain design of 1955 Bowman makes them very susceptible to corner and edge wear, making high-grade examples like this one very difficult to find.
