1909-1911 T206 White Border Bill O'Hara St. Louis Variation SGC VG/EX+ 55

Sold For: $29,400
Year: 1909
Auction: 2023 June
Lot #: 4
Auction: Prewar Baseball - T Tobacco Cards
Graded VG/EX+ 55 by SGC. Presented is an outstanding example of the rare T206 Bill O'Hara, St. Louis variation. O'Hara, St. Louis, is one of the key rarities of the T206 set in any condition, but it is almost never found in such high grade. Both the scarce Demmitt and O'Hara variations are true condition rarities. Polar Bear was the only company to issue either of these team variation cards. T206 cards issued with Polar Bear tobacco were not well protected from the accompanying product. This is why T206 cards with Polar Bear advertising reverses almost always have various condition problems, including tobacco staining. This O'Hara example has minimal staining (a few faint spots are all we can see, certainly much less than most T206 Polar Bear cards). It is bright and crisp with brilliant colors and light corner wear. The back has bold white printing set against a dark blue background. Noted for accuracy the card has a very slight diamond cut. This card is beautiful and in a noteworthy high grade, especially for one of the rare cards in the T206 set. Opening Bid $10.
