Extremely rare sample card from the Yum Yum Tobacco series of 1888 features an extraordinarily bold "in action" woodcut of legendary Hall of Famer John Clarkson with the Boston Nationals. 1888 was Clarkson's first season with Boston, having spent his prior four Major League seasons with the powerhouse Chicago Nationals. This is a magnificent example from this rare issue of one of the nineteenth century's greatest stars. Advanced collectors have always appreciated the mystique of the rarest pre-1900 baseball card issues. Whether it is because of the brand name, their unusual look, their extreme rarity, or a combination of all of these factors, few card issues are more highly prized than Yum Yum Tobacco cards among the most serious die-hard collectors.
