Circa 1921 Babe Ruth Original International Newsreel Photograph PSA/DNA Type I - Image Used for 1932 Sanella Margarine Card

Sold For: $8,400
Year: 1921
Auction: 2024 September
Lot #: 6
Auction: Prewar Baseball - 1910s and 1920s Cards
Circa 1921 original photograph of Babe Ruth at the plate in a swing-through pose. Encapsulated and certified by PSA/DNA as an original Type I photograph. This is a superb original photograph of Ruth from 1921, his second year with the New York Yankees! The reverse of the photo has an "Original International Newsreel" credit stamp, a pair of tape stains, and a few editorial notations. It is interesting to note that this particular image on the offered photo was used in the production of several of Ruth's cards, including his 1929-1930 Rogers Peet, 1932 Sanella Margarine, and 1932 Astra cards. Photos used in the production of trading cards have become increasingly popular in recent years. The photo (8 x 10 inches), which has exceptional clarity, is missing three of the four corners and displays several unobtrusive small creases and tears. Technically in Fair condition overall but with far superior visual appeal. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Opening Bid $10.
